The problem we're helping solve
Childhood poverty and food insecurity are among the most urgent and solvable problems in the world — and yet they persist at staggering scale. In the United States, 1 in 5 children lives in a food-insecure household. In Weld County, Colorado — our home — the numbers reflect this national reality. Children arrive at school hungry, unable to concentrate, falling behind. Early childhood malnutrition has lifelong consequences: on brain development, on physical health, on educational outcomes, on earning potential as adults.
The cruel irony of childhood poverty is that it's most damaging during the years children are least able to advocate for themselves. They depend entirely on the adults and systems around them. When those systems fail, children pay the price — often for the rest of their lives.
We refuse to accept that as inevitable.
Our partner: Weld County Food Bank
The Weld County Food Bank has made children a central focus of their hunger relief work. Through school food pantries, backpack programs, and community distributions, they work to make sure that no child in Weld County goes without the nutrition they need to grow, learn, and thrive.
Their backpack program alone sends hundreds of children home every Friday with enough food to get them through the weekend — because for many kids, school meals are the only guaranteed nutrition they receive. Without that backpack, the weekend is two days of hunger.
The Weld County Food Bank doesn't just feed children — they create stability. When a child knows they're going to eat, they can focus on being a child. They can play, learn, dream, and grow into the person they're meant to be.
